Fall 2024 trends & how to wear them
My favorite time of year is almost here—fall is quickly approaching and we’ve already gotten a taste of its glorious weather. There’s nothing like fall in the Midwest, and I’m sure you’d agree. The changing leaves, the perfect crisp and sunny days—it’s magical. But what really excites me is fall fashion. Oversized jackets, socks with loafers, jewel tones, and layers—we get to embrace it all. I love living somewhere with seasons for this very reason.
Here are a few “trends” that I think would look amazing on anyone and that I view as more timeless vs trendy. I’m loving burgundy, leopard print, leather jackets, boxy silhouettes, fur coats, skirts, matching denim sets, western details, braids, and loafers. The most important thing to remember when trying new styles is to have fun with it and wear what works for you. You don’t need to adopt a trend because that’s what everyone else is doing. Only wear what you love and truly feel comfortable in. It’s also fun to explore different styles and play with silhouettes because isn’t that what fashion is about? Just a hot tip I wanted to share that could be helpful.I love creating seasonal mood boards or saving inspirations that I truly resonate with. That way, I can incorporate the trends in a way that complement my personal style, rather than just going along with what everyone else is doing.
Burgundy Babe
Burgundy is the moment. It’s like a fine red wine and never goes out of style. There are so many ways to incorporate this color into your wardrobe. You can do a bold monochromatic look or maybe you just sprinkle the color in with a handbag, gloves or headband. An oversized cashmere sweater or a leather jacket is perfection. I also think burgundy jeans or trousers are so chic and cool. Have fun with it, make it your own.
Leopard Lover
Leopard print: you either love it or hate it. When I think leopard, I go instantly 90’s. It’s constantly being looped back into style. The devil works hard but leopard print’s PR team works harder. I personally love the print in ways both big and small. If you aren’t quite sure about this bold statement then try it out in a small ways first. For example, wear a small leopard handbag, a pair of ballet flats or a turtleneck that peaks through a blazer. If you are going bold with a leopard jacket then I say keep the rest of your look minimal and classy. For example, wear a Little Black Dress with sheer black tights under your long leopard coat. I can’t wait to play around with leopard print this season. I just bought some baggy leopard jeans for Fall I am super excited to style.
Liquid Leather
I love a good leather jacket for Fall. You can essentially wear jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers and throw on a cool leather jacket and look instantly chic. I also super love the idea of wearing a mini slip dress under an oversized leather jacket for a masculine/feminine vibe for date night. I feel like my drop off school uniform is going to be some type of satin pant with an oversized leather jacket.
Standout Skirts
Maxi’s and pencils and sheer… oh my! Skirts galore for fall ‘24. I absolutely love the idea of wearing a bubble mini skirt with sheer tights, a cropped sweater and ballet flats or kitten heels. Sheer skirts are going to be everywhere this season. You can definitely do this in a modest way by wearing an oversized sweater and boots over top. If you want to be more daring, wear a sheer skirt with built in shorts and pair it with an open blazer. Pencil skirts were also all over the runways so whether you’re headed to the boardroom or grocery store, you’ll be in style.
Fur Fever
Mob wife aesthetic is here to stay. Several designers sent fur down the runway in many forms: fur collars, scarves and coats. A fur coat makes everything elegant. My favorite way to wear a fur jacket is throwing it on with jeans and a baseball cap and calling it a day. It’s so chic and simple, but I feel like those are the best outfits when you aren’t trying too hard. Cropped fur jackets are especially popular this season although you can’t go wrong with a mid-length one either.
