Socialite Series: Wedding Edition
Dearly beloved, be the best dressed guest.
Wedding season has commenced so let’s celebrate the happy couple in style.
One of the biggest trending colors this season is butter yellow and I love it. It’s super chic and subtle if you aren’t a fan of doing bright colors but want something other than black. Butter yellow looks good on everyone and every skin tone, especially in the summer when you have a little color to your skin. It looks great and high fashion even on blondes! Don’t be scared of it. I’m obsessed with this dress and it would be perfect in pretty much any wedding environment or black tie whether that’s on a beach, in a church or a chic garden wedding.
Style and Hair and Makeup tips:
If you are going to be at a venue where there is mostly grass, I would choose a blocked heel, not a stiletto. I linked some cool clear heels that I love and go with anything. Otherwise, if you have a stiletto heel you love and want to wear you can buy the clear heel protectors on Amazon.
You could definitely wear nippies with this dress but I want to introduce you guys to this new sticky bra I found on Amazon that I have and think is quite amazing. I wear it all the time. It’s super sticky so it stays in place and reusable. Wear nude seamless undergarments so you don’t see the lines because this dress is silk.
I would wear a white handbag and heels with anything butter yellow. Black is too harsh and it just reminds me a bumblebee when mixed with yellow. White is appropriate for summer and very fresh. You can wear either gold or silver jewelry with butter yellow. I’m typically an earring girl vs a statement necklace kinda girl but you do you! If you do a statement earring then don’t do a statement necklace. I also love a statement earring with a few bangles.
A sleek bun and with this dress would look stunning. However, I love the idea of a side part with bouncy curls or a low loose bun a la Andie Anderson on How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It depends on who you want to be that night. A sleek bun is giving edgy and sexy. Bouncy curls and low bun are giving hopeless romantic.
I love whimsical makeup with this dress. Think fresh, youthful and dewy.
Another big color trend for the summer is ice blue. How pretty and ethereal is this dress! I like that the color is a pastel ocean blue vs a bright blue. I envision this for a beach wedding, but totally wearable for something else.
Style and Hair and Makeup tips:
I love the idea of wearing pearl or shell accessories with this dress to mimic the ocean and play into your scenery but in a subtle, minimalist way. I love silver accents with ice blue to stay with the cool tones, but white heels and handbag also works.
The dress has an asymmetrical neckline with a scarf, so I would opt for just an earring and a statement bracelet vs a necklace.
The dress is romantic and has that scarf accent around the neck so to show that off I would wear my hair in a low bun. If you have short hair I would do a middle part and make it sleek and straight.
Ok so makeup.. really into the idea of a subtle smokey eye with this outfit. You guys know I always try to find the juxtapositions in an outfit and by that I mean contrast. I like to take something that’s masculine and make it feminine and vice versa. So, because the dress is romantic and we’ve got the feminine shell and pearl accessories, I think we need to edge it out a little with the makeup. Not a super dramatic smokey eye but just enough to be noticeable. And if you do a smokey eye, keep the rest of your look minimal. Meaning, don’t go bold on the blush or the lips.
Style and Hair and Makeup tips:
I am so in love with this dress! I know what you might be thinking.. black to a wedding in the summer!? YES. You can. I love color in the spring/summer but nothing compares to a chic and timeless black dress. The front is modest and I love the low scoop back, it’s sexy without being over-the-top sexy for a wedding. I see this dress at a formal wedding in a church or at a venue in New York somewhere. It’s definitely less beachy and tropical.
The dress is so versatile you can really wear any shoe you want. Personally, I would choose black or silver. But because I said this would be fab at a formal/black-tie wedding let’s go silver accessories so we can glam it up a bit. A simple strappy silver heel is beautiful but you could also do a silver heel with crystal details, etc.
I would do a sultry, smokey eye with my hair back in a sleek bun or if you don’t like a sleek bun then I would do a low loose bun with some pieces out. This could be a very fun moment to play around with hair accessories as well — I will link some.
Because this dress has such a low back, I would definitely recommend that adhesive bra I previously mentioned. Game changer let me tell you!
Style tips:
I see this dress at a wedding in Mexico or somewhere tropical, the color is so cool. I think it’s fun and would look great on anyone no matter your skin tone, etc. I linked several other orange dresses that I also love.
I would style this with gold heels and mini clutch or white heels and mini bag or you could also do an orange strappy heel for a monochromatic look. I just recommend something minimal since the dress is the statement piece in such a vibrant color. If you do decide on the orange heel or an orange mini clutch, I would opt for a slightly lighter orange color than the dress.
I love the idea of gold accessories with this color because of the warmth.
If you do a statement earring, I would do some simple gold bangles or one statement bangle. Remember, we are keeping it simple.
If you wear this dress to a tropical destination whether that be a wedding or vacation, I’m assuming the weather will be humid so I would opt for my hair up. A braided pony would be really effortlessly cool or if you have short hair a half up/half down moment with a gold hair accessory could be fun.
